Children and Chiropractic Care

As a Chiropractor and a father of two, I thought it would be appropriate to help explain when and why children should see a Chiropractor. We see children in our clinic all the time, I would like to help answer some questions that may have crossed your mind as a parent.

Firstly, I should mention that in our clinic our chiropractors focus on musculoskeletal injuries. The most common injuries we see are:

• Back pain due to bad posture
• Scoliosis which refers to a curvature of the spine. More information can be found here.
• Ankle and knee pain due, which is usually due to sporting or dance injuries.
• Growing pains
• Flat Feet which is caused by drop arches, and can lead to foot and ankle pain.
• Concussion injuries, which are the result of head injuries occurring in contact sports. 

Kids generally respond great to chiropractic care, recovering very quickly. Sometimes the conditions can be chronic; conditions such as scoliosis, chronic headaches and back pain. In these cases, children may need to be seen regularly to help alleviate the muscle and joint stresses on their body. With therapy and a good home exercise program these conditions can be managed very well. 

Another segment of the population we see are infants. The most common condition we treat in this age range is torticollis. Torticolis is the condition whereby the neck is twisted due to muscle tightness. Torticolis can cause difficulty with breast feeding. Chiropractic care can help reduce muscle tension, increasing mobility which can help reduce the symptoms of torticollis. To learn more about torticolis see our article here,
