Like many people, I would bake and cook with aluminum foil. It is a great way to help avoid scrubbing pans after baking. However, what I didn’t know is that when cooking with foil, the aluminum can leach into your food which is bad for your health. Leafy vegetables and acidic foods such as tomatoes and citrus can absorb the most aluminum(1).
While cooking on foil, the aluminum can leach into foods, which when ingested can raise the level of aluminum in the body. This is a problem as our body can only get rid of aluminum in very small amounts. The World Health Organisation has determined the safe level for the amount of aluminum a body can consume is 40mg per Kg of body weight per day(2).
