Study: 20% Of People Over Age 55 Have Foot/Ankle Pain

A recent study published in the Journal Of Foot And Ankle Research 2019 found that nearly 20% of people over the age of 55 suffered from foot and ankle pain.

A detailed survey of 16,222 people over the age of 55 was conducted to examine the prevalence of joint pain. It was found that approximately 185 people out of every 1000 suffered from foot and ankle pain. Women and the elderly were more likely to have foot and ankle pain over other participants of the study.

Other key findings from the study included:

– People with knee and foot pain had a 14-fold increase in difficulty standing and walking

– People with hip pain were two and a half times more likely to report difficult going up or down stairs.

– Hip pain was the leading cause of difficulty rising from a chair
