Can Listerine Help Eczema?

As a chiropractor I see many different skin condition. One of the most popular tends to be eczema. Eczema, also known as Atopic Dermatitis is an overreaction of the immune system causing itchy skin. This condition produces red bumps as well as thickened, scaly and itchy skin. People who tend to have allergies are more susceptible to having eczema.

The cause of eczema is unknown, but there are thoughts that the disruption of the microbiological ecology on the skin could cause itchy eczema. Some patients have reported that applying listerine with the use of a cotton ball has helped reduce the itchiness and severity of eczema. This could be plausible as listerine contains many essential oils, as well as antimicrobial and antifungal ingredients. This may help re-establish the correct skin microbiological ecology, helping to reduce eczema systems.
