IT Band Syndrome (ITBS)

Iliotibial band is a ligament that connect the hip to the shin in the outer thigh. When there is irritation or inflammation of this ligament, ITBS develops.

It is most common in athletes, and one of the most common overuse syndrome in long distance runners.

Patient may experience increased pain with downhill running that is otherwise not present while going uphill. A “squeaking” sensation in the knee while walking, or running may also be reported.

With appropriate conservative treatment, prognosis is excellent. Some treatments that we offer for ITBS include:

  • Ultrasound
  • Osseous manipulation and mobilization
  • Cross fiber friction massage
