For the last condition, dysfunction of the tempomandibular joint can cause tinnitus. For patients with this type of tinnitus there now be some hope for relief according to a recent study.
In the study titled ‘Effects of Cervico-Mandibular Manual Therapy in Patients with Temporomandibular Pain Disorders and Associated Somatic Tinnitus: A Randomized Clinical Trial’ in the 2019 issue of Pain Med, research’s investigated the role manual therapies, education and exercise played in helping tinnitus symptoms.
Manual therapies are techniques employed by Chiropractors and Physiotherapist. These therapies can include joint mobilization, joint manipulation and soft tissue therapy techniques.
The study included 61 participants, and found that manual therapies in combination with exercise and education helped tinnitus more than patients who were only provided with education and exercise.
