Prepatellar Bursitis

Prepatellar bursitis is the inflammation of the prepatellar bursa located in the front of the patella (kneecap).

Trauma from falling directly on knees, or constant kneeling increases the likelihood of developing bursitis in the prepatellar bursa. This is seen in professions such as carpenters, roofers, or athletes (soccer, hockey, volleyball).

A very subtle swelling may be observable at the front of the knee over the bursa. Pain is associated with direct pressure to the affected area.
