Gastrocnemius Bursitis

Gastrocnemius bursitis is the inflammation of the gastrocnemius bursa located in the back of the knee.

Pain is associated with flexion of the knee, which may radiate down to the foot, and straightening the leg from a flexed position is also difficult. The swelling can be egg sized or very subtle.

The goal of treatment is to reduce the swelling and inflammation, so the causes of the bursitis must be eliminated or dealt with. Electrotherapy and different massages are encouraged to accelerate recovery.
